A revitalising getaway

Kos is a well established Greek destination due to its mild climate, long history, significant archaeological landmarks, endless coastlines, rich gastronomy, scenic mountain villages and renowned accommodation units. Wellness facilities are present in most of the island’s hotels increasing your chances for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. And as the motherland of Hippocrates, who was the first physician in history and father of modern medicine, Kos has a strong and long lasting connection to wellness.

Hippocrates is considered to be the founder of modern medicine and his legacy continues to this day. As a medical pioneer, Hippocrates prescribed treatments for injuries, which included friction and rubbing as a form of healing. Within his treatments and prescriptions, he promoted overall wellness by encouraging a good diet, exercise, ample sleep, fresh air and music to restore health imbalance –  timeless, right? He believed that massage had two primary uses: strengthening or relaxing muscles. By doing so, Hippocrates took massage away from being seen as a superstitious or "magical" practice and gave it a grounding in science.

A body and mind vacation

In order to spend the whole day unwinding and give your mind and body a proper vacation, check yourself in at a local spa, either in a nearby resort or a stand-alone wellness centre. Pamper yourself into a jacuzzi, sauna, hammam or massage cabin and try some of the available wellness treatments - many of them based on the Hippocratic philosophy. A massage or a facial therapy may be just what you need to relax the day away. For ultimate stress relief, opt for a Swedish or a deep tissue massage and finish with an aromatherapy that will definitely boost your mood. You may even book a couple’s massage with a partner, friend or family member.

Nature-made spa

Apart from the plethora of wellness facilities, services and therapies based on the Hippocratic philosophy, the island also presents a natural outdoor spa: the thermal hot springs in Therma, bearing healing properties. The atmospheric Therma beach is home to a volcanic natural thermal spring and offers a particularly refreshing wellness experience, especially during the night as you literally ease under the stars.

Now, if you prefer the relaxation therapy of just being surrounded by the soothing sea, serene mountains and beautiful Greek nature, just find the nearest favourite spot and relax the day away. We recommend that you go all the way and ride your bike, so as to completely connect with nature and take in the fresh air.
