Kos is a well established Greek destination due to its mild climate, long history, significant archaeological landmarks, endless coastlines, rich gastronomy, scenic mountain villages and renowned accommodation units. Wellness facilities are present in most of the island’s hotels increasing your chances for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. And as the motherland of Hippocrates, who was the first physician in history and father of modern medicine, Kos has a strong and long lasting connection to wellness.
Hippocrates is considered to be the founder of modern medicine and his legacy continues to this day. As a medical pioneer, Hippocrates prescribed treatments for injuries, which included friction and rubbing as a form of healing. Within his treatments and prescriptions, he promoted overall wellness by encouraging a good diet, exercise, ample sleep, fresh air and music to restore health imbalance – timeless, right? He believed that massage had two primary uses: strengthening or relaxing muscles. By doing so, Hippocrates took massage away from being seen as a superstitious or "magical" practice and gave it a grounding in science.
